Activities in the Computational Intelligence and Applications Laboratory (LITC - Laboratório de Inteligência e Tecnologia Computacional) are concentrated on fundamental issues and applications of Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Systems and hybrid computational intelligence systems.
The main interest on the Artificial Neural Networks area is on the development of learning algorithms. Current research include the development of a hybrid learning algorithm that uses control theory to train a multi-layer perceptron, study of inverse problems in the neural networks domain and also the development of techniques to extract knowledge from a trained neural network. In the neuro-fuzzy area, activities are mainly concentrated on predictive maintenance of industrial equipments and fault detection.
Several applications were also developed in the areas of robotics, signal processing, modelling and control.
