Hugo de Paula's Homepage

I got a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG, in the beginning of 1999. I studied clarinet for 3 years with Prof. Walter Alves de Souza, first clarinetist of the Symphonic Orchestra of Minas Gerais, and studied music in the Artistic Education Foundation.

My first scientific project was "necSO - Uma Linguagem de Composição Implementada num Sistema de Síntese e Processamento de Som do Tipo MUSIC V (Csound)", developed in 1996 under supervision of Prof. Maurício Alves Loureiro, from the School of Music, UFMG. In 2000, I received a Masters Degree in Telecom Engineering with the multidisciplinary project "Analysis and Resynthesis of natural clarinet sound using principal component analysis (PCA)", under supervision of Prof. Hani Camille Yehia, UFMG.

In 2001 I became an Assistant Professor in the computer science department of the Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-MG). I got my Ph. D. in the Electrical Engineering department of UFMG, on 2004, as a member of the CEFALA - Center for Research on Speech, Acoustics, Language and Music.

From november/2002 until april/2003 I worked as a member of the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute - ATR, in Kyoto Japan, where I took part of the Communication Dynamics Project from Prof. Eric Vatikiotis-Bateson, in ATR and head of the Cognitive Systems Group in UBC - the University of British Columbia, Canada.
